VUB presents ZEFES at IEEE-PEMC 2024

30 September 2024

We are excited to announce that our project partner, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), presented the ZEFES project at the prestigious 21st IEEE International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (PEMC 2024) held in Pilsen, Czech Republic, from September 30, 2024.

During the conference, VUB highlighted the advancements of the ZEFES project with a focus on Digital Twins (DTs) technology. DTs, often compared to simulation models but with more advanced capabilities, allow for real-time synchronization of physical systems and their virtual counterparts. Unlike traditional simulations, DTs offer the ability to map existing systems through data-driven or hybrid models, allowing more accurate monitoring and analysis of operational conditions and system behavior over time.

The presentation was split into two key sections:

  • Part I: Covered offline drivetrain component modeling and control design. It demonstrated how DT platforms can accelerate design processes, enabling faster time-to-market with iterative design and validation solutions.
  • Part II: Focused on real-time condition monitoring and lifetime estimation techniques for drivetrain components. By estimating behavior and remaining useful lifetime (RUL), the project aims to ensure safer, more reliable operations and supports the concept of “Reliability as a Service” (RaaS).

The ZEFES project’s contributions at IEEE PEMC 2024 demonstrate the project’s leading role in the future of digital twin technology for enhanced reliability and operational efficiency.
