Organisation Introduction

The Electromobility Research Centre (MOBI) is nested at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and it develops electric and hybrid vehicle technologies and evaluates new concepts in electro-mobility. MOBI aims at a better and safer mobility of people and goods, to reduce congestion and environmental impacts in urban and inter-urban areas, and to improve operational efficiency. The EPOWERS Research Group of VUB-MOBI Research Centre is a renowned research group in the field of power electronics, powertrains and energy systems with the vision to create sustainable, emission-free, affordable, efficient and innovative technologies enabling tomorrow’s smart mobility, transport and energy solutions for everyone in the world.

Why ZEFES?

VUB-MOBI-EPOWERS is the coordinator and the driving force behind the project and defined ZEFES in line with its scientific roadmap in electro-mobility and power electronics. VUB-MOBI-EPOWERS exploits its knowledge and networks in ZEFES to further optimize HD BEVs and FCEVs together with the required infrastructure (MCS, HRS) to demonstrate their cost-effective usage on cross-border long-haul missions with the final aim of facilitating the technologies’ market uptake and progress towards clean and efficient European transportation of goods.

What in ZEFES?

VUB is the Coordinator of ZEFES and plays an active role in communication, dissemination, exploitation and business modeling via stakeholders’ engagement, clustering, and technical publications.

Furthermore, VUB is responsible for use case mapping, pilot site coordination (e-charging and hydrogen fueling infrastructure), optimization, right sizing, and development of PE components (e-drive: electric motor, inverters, DC-DC converters, onboard charger, ECU) and is involved in digital twin modelling.
