Real-World Energy Efficiency and Emissions of Electric Freight Vehicles

May 2025

Our project partner ALICE is organising a webinar on real-world energy efficiency and emissions of electric freight vehicles on the 5th of May from 15:00 to 16:30 CET.

The transition to electric freight vehicles is progressing across Europe, however, understanding their real-world energy performance and emissions remains an important issue to support effective deployment and decision-making. This Efficient and low emission assets and energy TG1 webinar “Real-World Energy Efficiency and Emissions of Electric Freight Vehicles”, co-organized with the Smart Freight Centre (SFC), will provide insights into how emissions and energy efficiency of electric trucks are assessed using the latest methodologies and empirical data.

The session will bring together experts from research organizations and industry to discuss:

  • Implementation of ISO 14083 for greenhouse gas emissions accounting
  • Application of well-to-wheel analysis for electric freight vehicles
  • Impact of electricity emission factors and their variability
  • Real-world performance of electric trucks and associated charging equipment
  • Driving range estimation practices by vehicle manufacturers

In this session, industry leaders from ALICE, experts from Smart Freight Centre, the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight, and EMISIA will share practical insights on evaluating energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in electric freight operations, aligning with ISO 14083 standards. The webinar will cover key topics such as the well-to-wheel approach for EV emissions, electricity emission factors, and the energy performance of EVs and charging equipment, followed by a panel discussion featuring experts from leading organizations like EINRIDE and GRUBER Logistics, who will share their practical experiences on using electric trucks and will explore how current emission accounting systems can be adapted for EV transport.

The webinar is part of ALICE’s collaborative work within Horizon Europe R&I projects ZEFESFLEXMCSMACBETH, and CLEVER, aimed at accelerating innovation towards zero-emission freight transport.
