September 2026
The AEVETO cluster was present at Connecting Europe Days 2026 in Brussels, bringing together ten European research and innovation projects working towards the large-scale deployment of zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles.
Over three days, the event brought together more than 4,500 transport experts, policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders, providing an important platform for discussing the future of European transport and the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient mobility system.
Representatives from the AEVETO projects showcased their latest developments and demonstrated how European research and innovation are helping to overcome the technological, infrastructural and operational barriers to zero-emission freight transport. The projects cover a range of solutions, including battery electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell trucks, charging infrastructure, digital tools and new approaches to freight logistics.
The AEVETO booth also welcomed European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, who met with representatives of the cluster and discussed the projects, their progress and the expectations of transport operators. His visit highlighted the continued importance of innovation and investment in enabling the transition to zero-emission heavy-duty transport across Europe.
A key theme throughout Connecting Europe Days was the need to move from demonstration to large-scale deployment. The technologies needed for the decarbonisation of heavy-duty road transport are rapidly progressing, but scaling them up will require continued investment, appropriate infrastructure, supportive policies and close collaboration between industry, policymakers, researchers and transport operators. One of the main outcomes that was shared on the booth were the 10 key recommendations on energy infrastructure, as part of the AEVETO White Paper from Working Group 3. You can download the White Paper here.
This is at the heart of the work of the AEVETO cluster. By bringing together European projects developing and demonstrating different zero-emission solutions, AEVETO provides a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and the sharing of lessons learned across the sector. From battery electric and hydrogen trucks to megawatt charging, digital solutions and new freight transport models, the projects represented at Connecting Europe Days demonstrated that the transition to zero-emission heavy-duty transport is already underway.
The next step is clear: turning successful demonstrations and research results into solutions that can be deployed at scale across Europe.
The AEVETO cluster will continue working together with its partners and stakeholders to help make this transition a reality.
