K-Expert Talk at Transport Logistic 2025 Highlights Gaps in Zero-Emission Freight Implementation

At the 2025 Transport Logistic fair in Munich, Kässbohrer hosted the second K-Expert Talk on Electrification, bringing together key ZEFES stakeholders to discuss the challenges and progress in zero-emission (ZE) freight transport across Europe. Building on the success of the 2024 IAA event, the panel focused on real-world demonstrations and critical hurdles in infrastructure, policy, digital tools, logistics models, and intermodal integration.

Moderated by ZEFES Technical Coordinator Ben Kraaijenhagen, the discussion featured industry leaders from ALICE, DPD Netherlands, ETB, Kässbohrer, Primafrio, Scania, and Volvo. While ZE vehicle technology is advancing, regulatory harmonization—especially regarding trailer type approval and weight limits—remains a major barrier.

Key insights included:

  • Infrastructure gaps, including slow deployment of charging and ferry readiness.
  • Policy challenges, such as lack of EU-wide e-trailer approval.
  • Digital tools need better integration and data sharing.
  • Logistics models require improved collaboration.
  • Intermodal transport needs stronger electrification support.

Speakers emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among regulators, OEMs, operators, and infrastructure providers to scale ZE freight beyond pilot projects. Kässbohrer highlighted its electrified trailers in use between Sweden and the Netherlands and along the Eindhoven–Munich corridor, illustrating operational and regulatory challenges.

Looking ahead, the ZEFES Stakeholder Symposium will take place on 25 February 2026 in Luxembourg, hosted by CFL Multimodal. Ben Kraaijenhagen invites all stakeholders to join and help co-create scalable solutions for Europe’s zero-emission freight future.
