The ZEFES coffeebreak with Maurice Loef from DPD Nederland

What was your original motivation to become a researcher/project manager?
“As member of GeoPost we as DPD Nederland BV need to align with GeoPosts’ SBTi targets as agreed within the Paris Climate Agreement. Therefor we explore several options of wich participating in the Zefes Project for electric roadtrains is one.”

What is your (main) research area today?
“Optimizing traffics in order to reduce climate impacts.”

What is the main focus of your team in ZEFES?
“Facilitate the Zefes project team with the DPD carriers Rebro Transport BV and Peter van Setten that are also involved in this project and deliver the trucks/drivers. Also DPD will make sure the routes in the project are available to test on and will change those when needed to fit the overall project goal.”

From all your activities within the project, what are you the most proud of/keen to share with the public?
“The willingness of our carriers to also participate in those kind of projects in order to reduce climate impacts for the future generations.”

How do you expect the ZEFES results will impact your organisation and the transport sector in Europe?
“We all know that diesel will be less and less used in transport. Currently DPD Nederland BV focuses on reducing emissions with the transfer of diesel into HVO100 but the next step will be electric trucks on long distances. With this project we can test that but also make sure the charging infrastructure within Europe is taken into account as that is the most important part to make electric successful.”
