Organisation Introduction

AVL List GmbH with its headquarters in Graz, is one of the world’s leading mobility technology companies for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry, and in other sectors. The company provides concepts, solutions and methodologies for a greener, safer and better world of mobility.

AVL constantly expands its portfolio of high-end methodologies and technologies in the areas of vehicle development and testing. With a holistic approach – from ideation phase to serial production – the company covers vehicle architectures and platform solutions including the impact of new propulsion systems and energy carriers.

As a global technology provider, AVL’s offerings range from simulation, virtualization and test automation for product development to ADAS/AD and vehicle software. The company combines state-of-the-art and highly scalable IT, software and technology solutions with its application know-how, thereby offering customers extensive tools in areas such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity or Embedded Systems.

Why ZEFES?

AVL conducts in-depth research on new technologies in the field of Co2-neutral powertrains for heavy-duty vehicles. At the moment, the following three concepts are the main focus of the discussion: BEVs (battery electric vehicles), FCEVs (fuel cell electric vehicles) and alternative fuels for ICEs (internal combustion engines). The ZEFES project with a large and diversified consortium including leading OEMs is a great opportunity to answer strategically important questions. Our expectations during and after the ZEFES project include extended knowledge of future-oriented and promising technologies and drive concepts (under various operation and application conditions) for transport companies.

What in ZEFES?

Within the consortium, AVL primarily deals with simulations comparing different concepts under typical operating conditions. In addition, existing and simulation tools in development must be further refined and parameterized to achieve exploitable results (based on a fully developed digital twin of the powertrain). As prerequisites for a reliable assessment, the requirements for new long-haul vehicles must be precisely defined and then designed and evaluated in terms of zero emission requirements. Results achieved by the consortium or individual partners (in the course of the project) will be elaborated, summarized and presented by AVL.
